HVAC advice made for the Florida climate

Real, practical guidance for keeping your Tampa Bay home comfortable, healthy, and storm-ready — from a team that lives here too.

01

Hurricane season HVAC prep

June through November, a little preparation protects your system — and helps you recover faster after a storm.

  • Before a storm: turn the system OFF at the thermostat and breaker if flooding or a power surge is likely — surges during outages are a top cause of compressor and board damage.
  • Make sure your outdoor condenser is secured; ask us about hurricane tie-down straps or anchoring.
  • Photograph your unit and note the model/serial for insurance.
  • After the storm: do NOT restart a unit that was submerged or partially flooded — have it inspected first to avoid electrical hazards and further damage.
02

Beating Florida humidity & indoor air quality

In our climate, humidity control is comfort — and it protects your home from mold and musty air.

  • Aim to keep indoor relative humidity between 30% and 50% (the EPA’s recommended range) to discourage mold and dust mites.
  • Dry air feels cooler — good humidity control often lets you raise the thermostat and lower your bill.
  • Consider a whole-home dehumidifier for rainy stretches when your AC alone can’t keep up.
  • Change filters regularly and ask about UV or media filtration if anyone has allergies or asthma.
03

Spring AC tune-up checklist

Before the brutal summer heat, a tune-up prevents the breakdowns that happen at the worst possible time.

  • Schedule maintenance in late winter or early spring — before the summer rush and before peak demand strains your system.
  • A proper tune-up cleans the coil, checks refrigerant and electrical components, clears the drain line, and verifies airflow.
  • Catching a weak capacitor or clogged drain in spring is far cheaper than an emergency call in August.
  • Ask us about scheduling regular maintenance so it’s handled for you automatically.
04

Protecting coastal & salt-air systems

If you live near the Gulf or bay, salt air is quietly aging your equipment. Here’s how to fight back.

  • Salt air corrodes condenser coils and outdoor components faster than inland — coastal systems benefit from more frequent service.
  • Regular coil cleaning and protective coatings can meaningfully extend equipment life near the water.
  • Rinse the outdoor unit gently with fresh water periodically (with the power off) to reduce salt buildup.
  • For beachfront homes, twice-a-year professional maintenance is a smart investment.
